Road Rash returns? EA boss teases retro game revival

EA has been combing through its back catalogue and could revive at least “a couple” of classic franchises according to EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. While he told CVG that the company needs more than just updated graphics to encourage it to bring a game back from the dead, he dropped a couple of intriguing hints.

Looking back into the mists of time, Gibeau mentioned out chainswinging motorcycle battler Road Rash and the Strike series. Could Road Rash really be set to ride again? Read on to hear what the EA boss had to say…

Talking about revivals, Gibeau revealed: “We do have a couple of old franchies that we’re looking at right now…reimagining them and bringing them back.” He then flagged up Road Rash and the Strike series before explaining that any revived game would need to follow the pattern established by Medal of Honor which switched from historical warfare to modern combat for its reboot.

He continued: “”But when we look at Road Rash…we can’t just put them on new tech with the same gameplay from ten years ago, we’ve got to have something new. That’s the typical challenge that we have.”

A Road Rash revival was reported to be in the works a few years back but never saw the light of day. Meanwhile there have been recurring reports that EA is set to revive Syndicate, the cyber-punk assassination real time strategy title, that last saw the light of day in 1996.

What veteran EA titles would you like to see given a modern spin? Hit the comments and let us know.
